Senior embedded software engineer at award-winning startup – contract

This role

You will work in a small team developing the microcontroller firmware to run the company’s sensor hardware, and be responsible for integrating, testing and deploying the systems.

We are primarily looking for a contractor or fixed-term employment contract for a 6-month placement. There is the possibility for the role to be made permanent at the end of this.

Must-have skills and experience

  • A 1st or 2:1 degree from a leading university in electronics, software or systems engineering or computer science
  • At least 3 years’ experience developing embedded software in a commercial environment using C/C++
  • Good understanding of electronics design, both analogue and digital
  • Familiarity with working on a range of embedded systems and microcontrollers
  • Track record of making things, ideally both through work and in your spare time.

Desirable experience

  • ARM mbed OS or similar RTOS platforms
  • Power optimisation for battery-powered devices
  • Experience in least one of C#, Java, Javascript, PHP and Python
  • Good understanding of Internet and communication systems architectures and protocols, preferably including TCP/IP, TLS, COAP, LWM2M
  • Experience developing products using wireless technologies such as M2M, LPWAN, LoRa, Bluetooth, BLE
  • Systems architecture.
